Now into its 5th year the North and South Country Cluster tournaments were held last Thursday and Friday.

The north section had to be transferred to the indoor centre due to the amount of rain during the early part of the week so it made for some last minute changes and learning for the teams!

Tinui having been champions 3 out of the previous 4 tournies and were favourites to take the title and they weren’t disappointed beating Alfredton in the final match. The North cluster awards were as follows.

  • Batting: Caleb Matheson (Eketahuna)
  • Bowling: Harry McKay (Alfredton)
  • Fairplay awards: Georgia Percy (Tinui) Fynn Ellmers Tinui) Josh Tatham (Whareama) and Cheylyn Ihaka (Eketahuna)

The South section was hosted as usual by Martinborough and we had some grand weather for the occasion. Going into the final game with 2 wins each was Martinborough and Wainuioru which went right down to the last over where star batsman Renata Abbott changed the game with 4 sixes in the over to get Martinborough home by 12 runs.

South cluster awards went to…

  • Batting: Renata Abbott (Martinborough)
  • Bowling: Isaac Noble (Wainuioru).
  • Fairplay: Joel McNeill (Martinborough) Cooper Jamieson (Kahutara) Cody Hefferen (Wainuioru) and Annabelle Butterick (Gladstone)

Special mention to our two retiring principals Rob Cameron from Wainuioru and Pip Fairbrother from Whareama. Thank you so much for your assistance with the programme since its inception. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Hope you shared your gifts!!!
