The Greytown Cricket Club Old Timers Day held on March 10th 2012 turned out to be a huge success. The weather gods played their part, producing a full day of sunshine, that was soaked up by the many past, present and future players from the local area.

The day kicked off at 10am with a friendly 15 over match between Greytown Old Timer v Wairarapa Old Timers. The Greytown team, lead by past President and fountain of knowledge, John Gray compiled a healthy score, with all players showing they had not lost any of their natural talent, including former Black Cap Michael Mason and Josh Doherty peppering the boundary with 6s and 4s.

The Wairarapa team, lead by Wairarapa Cricket Chairman Craig McBride, chased the score valiantly, and managed to sneak a draw on the last ball. Highlights included Todd Wollett picking up his 1st ever wicket for Greytown, John Gray taking an acrobatic diving catch in the slips, and Michael Mason bowling to a 9 slip cordon, only to have field his own ball from over the boundary.

The afternoon produced two fantastic 20/20 victories for the Greytown Senior team, over Rathkeale and Lansdowne, to confirm their place in next weeks final.

Greytown Cricket President Jason Osborne was overwhelmed by the success of the day. To see the ‘Old Timers’ enjoying the sun, the venue, the entertainment, and the reminiscing of stories, was just fantastic.
