As was reported last week the Wairarapa Under 17 and 15 Boys and Under 15 girls are away on tournament this week.

Under 17 Boys

The under 17’s are playing in the Central Districts tournament in Napier.  First up they were playing against Taranaki.  After losing the toss Wairarapa batted very well on a difficult wicket to reach 183 for 7.  Liam Burling and Kenneth Sprowson batted very well with Liam making 88 not out and Kenneth making 33.

However, manager Mark Elliott says the bowling was disappointing allowing Taranaki to easily score the required runs and finished up on 188 for 1 with Kelsey Fahey taking the wicket.

Today the boys take on Marlborough, tomorrow Manawatu and on Thursday the opposition is determined by pool play.

Under 15 Boys

The under 15’s are taking part in their Central Districts tournament in Levin which started yesterday.   We have had a report from their first game which was against Marlborough.  Wairarapa won the toss and put Marlborough in to bat and through some excellent and tight bowling Marlborough were all out for 106 runs off 55 overs.  The Wairarapa Boys started off well and were only 2 wickets down for 70 runs, with plenty of overs to spare.  Unfortunately they had a bit of a collapse and got through to 106 for 9 and then lost their 10th wicket resulting in a draw.

The pick of the bowlers were Drew Macdonald who bowled 9.3 overs, 3 maidens for 10 runs and 2 wickets, Ethan Childs bowled 12 overs with 7 maidens 15 runs and 2 wickets and Frank Dickson bowled 9 overs, 4 maidens for 17 runs and 2 wickets. Jeremy Osborne opened the batting and top scored with 33 runs.
