Turkey Red Greytown have pulled off a sensational victory against New Plymouth Old Boys from Taranaki in the Central Districts National Club Champs elimination series today at Manawaroa Park in Palmerston North and will now meet Manawatu champions Freyberg tomorrow in the final to determine which club will travel to Cornwall Cricket Club in Auckland as the Central Districts representative.

After disposing of Hawkes Bay champions Cornwall two weeks ago Greytown booked themselves a place in the final four in Palmerston North this weekend.

Greytown skipper Gordon Reisima won the toss and elected to bowl due to the greenish conditions of the wicket but with the score at 193-3 after 38 overs might been questioning his decision as wickets were hard to come by.

Luckily for the Greytown side their never say die attitude came to the fore and the experienced duo of Seth Rance (4-29 off 10) and Steve Coleman (3-37 off 10) produced a spirited fight back which saw New Plymouth bowled out on the final ball of the innings for a par total of 244.

Greytowns reply got off to a shaky start with Kibblewhite and Burling departing early but the cool heads of Jake Ross and Steve Coleman kept the score board ticking over and when both departed the score was 90-4. The usually aggressive Paul Lyttle played the anchor role and scored 40 off 80 balls to let free scorers such as Robbie Speers. Seth Rance and Gordon Reisima attack the New Plymouth bowlers and see Greytown home quite comfortably with 4 wickets in hand and 2.4 overs to spare.

Vice captain Rance was happy enough with the effort but hasn’t lost focus on the main reason why they are there.

“Half the job is done as we really want to win tomorrow and be the first Waiararapa team to represent CD at the national champs in Cornwall. But it was a great team effort and the boys never said die and fought hard the entire match .” Said Rance

Tomorrow sees Greytown take on Freyberg  Cricket Club at Manawaroa Park from 10.30am. The match will be live scored on CricHq
