Game One:  Under 14’s square the ledger

The Wairarapa Under 14 rep side had a nervous start to their tournament week in Nelson when they took on the home side.

In a 50 over match Wairarapa were bowled out for just 63 with only Brad Griffith surviving for any length of time with a well compiled 20.

Nelson also had to work hard to reach the target – taking nearly 23 overs to secure a win by 8 wickets.

Luis Garnett showed that the “young bushmen” have a bit of fight, taking both wickets (2-12) off 5 overs.

The tournament match was won by Nelson, but once into their stride the Wairarapa boys took charge in a 20-20 match.

This time Nelson batted first and were all out inside 19 overs.

Game Two: Under 14’s continue to improve

In typical Nelson sunny conditions the Wairarapa Under 14 performed well on the second day of their tournament. They stuck to their task well to bowl the strong Marlborough combination out for 202. Jack Forrester was the star bowler taking 5 – 40.

Wairarapa fell short of the target in their run chase  but did well to bat their 50 overs. They reached 175 – 9 with Jack Wakeling compiling an impressive 51. A loss to the boys by 27 runs, but this was a most promising all round effort.”
