The Wairarapa under 15 Boys are preparing for their tournament which is being held in Levin next month.  They are a very promising team and are being coached by Steve Macdonald.

Versus Wanganui

On Sunday the 9th November they travelled up to Wanganui for their first match.  Wanganui won the toss and elected to bat.  Wairarapa through some fine bowling and fielding dismissed them for 117 runs in just 33 overs. In reply Wairarapa started off steadily chasing the runs down but unfortunately  lost some early wickets which proved to be costly in the end, losing by 23 runs. This match was evenly contested and could have gone either way.

Bowling Stats:  Drew Macdonald 10 – 2 – 2 -18, Quinn Childs 4 – 0 – 2 – 10, Macgregor Harper 6 – 2 – 2- 17, Quincey Stephens 3 – 0 – 2 – 28

Batting Drew Macdonald 18 runs, Quinn Childs 11, and unfortunately extras top scored on 33.

Versus Hawkes Bay

On Sunday the 23rd November the boys played against Hawkes Bay at QE Park, Masterton.  This game also counted for points towards the CD tournament being held next month.

Hawkes Bay won the toss and put Wairarapa in to bat.  On a very green wicket, the boys didn’t have the greatest of starts, losing a wicket in the first over.  Thanks to some fine batting, by Jeremy Osborne (84) and some good partnerships the team reached a respectable 150 runs. Hawkes Bay lost an early wicket in the third over giving the boys a real lift, but unfortunately getting more wickets was difficult.  Quinn Childs (9 – 4 – 3 – 36) made the breakthrough and Wairarapa had them 4 down for 70 runs, but they proved too strong and we lost by 6 wickets.

Well done to Jeremy for getting his name on the Honours Board for the first time this season.

Steve Macdonald is happy with the team’s performance and can see a lot of positives from both games.
