The Wairarapa Cricket Management Board hosted the evening to thank the many volunteers who had contributed in so many ways to cricket in the area.  Volunteers make a massive contribution to cricket in the Wairarapa and without them we would simply not exist.  The Wairarapa Cricket Management Board realises that there are increasing demands on people’s spare time and that by hosting such an evening it would help to show in a small way just how much our volunteers are valued.  All volunteers were invited from umpires, coaches, managers, scorers, groundsmen, team captains, club captains, club chairs, club secretaries …… the list goes on. Wairarapa Cricket Life Members & Volunteers evening

Volunteers are very special people and it was great to recognise 5 particularly special people who collectively have given over 100 years voluntarily to cricket.  It was 10 years ago that life membership was awarded in Wairarapa Cricket.  Life membership is the highest award available and recognises the exceptional contribution of individuals to cricket in the Wairarapa.

It was with great pleasure that the following were awarded their Life Membership:

Newly appointed Life Members of Wairarapa Cricket: Left to Right: Tony Short, Mark Elliott, Chris Cogdale, John Gray, Doug Bracewell

Four out of 5 of the newly appointed Life Members are still actively involved in volunteering in cricket.  It was a wonderful evening where memories were shared, old friends caught up and the word “volunteering” was confirmed as a way of life for many in our cricket community.

Thank you to to Breadcraft for sponsoring the bread for the supper for the evening and to Catherine Rossiter-Stead for taking the photos.

Thank you to all our volunteers, without you cricket in the Wairarapa just wouldn’t happen!
